Which EPA rules apply to you?
Three quick checks: whether you need an SPCC plan, your hazardous waste generator status, and the other environmental rules your work triggers.
Do you need an SPCC plan?
Count every container of oil that holds 55 gallons or more: fuel tanks, drums, hydraulic and lube oil, transformers, and generators. Count the full capacity, not what's in them today.
What is your generator status?
Use your heaviest month. A 55 gallon drum of liquid waste often weighs 400 to 500 pounds. Leave out used oil and universal waste managed under their own rules.
What else does your work trigger?
What you likely need
Check anything that applies, and your list builds here.
Based on federal EPA rules. Many states run these programs with stricter requirements, so treat this as a starting point, not legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
Who can write our SPCC plan?
Qualified facilities with 10,000 gallons or less can often self-certify. Larger facilities need a plan certified by a Professional Engineer. We write SPCC plans, and those that need PE certification are certified through our licensed engineering partner.
Does my state have different rules?
Often, yes. Many states run their own hazardous waste, stormwater, and air programs, and some are stricter than federal rules. We check both.
What do EPA violations cost?
Up to $124,426 per violation, per day, depending on the law. Our free penalty calculator shows your exposure.
